U Facilities Safety Shoe Policy

U Facilities Employees must wear protective footwear that meets the safety requirements for particular trades and tasks performed on campus. In order to effectively protect employees from work-related hazards, U Facilities will purchase protective footwear once a year.

*Under management’s discretion, an additional pair of protective footwear may be purchased at a higher frequency if replacing a heavily used or damaged pair. Managers are required to inspect the damages on early replacements.

Frequency:
  • Safety Footwear is qualified for a purchase credit each year.
  • Snow boots are qualified for a purchase credit every three years.
Amounts:
  • Protective footwear is eligible for a $175.00 credit per pair
  • Anti-slip footwear is eligible for a $90 credit per pair
  • Snow boots are eligible for a $100 credit per pair
Purchase Process:
  • Employees requiring safety boots should submit a requisition to the Materials department or contact Brad Houtz directly. Additionally, employees may browse options online at Amazon, Grainger, or Zoro.
  • The Materials shop also offers coupons for Ossine’s for those who prefer in-person shopping.
  • We will reimburse out-of-pocket purchases as well.

If any additional protective footwear not listed above is deemed necessary by a group or team then approval should be requested through the U Facilities Safety Committee.
